As Eric Clapton began building his legendary status as a great blues guitarist, the slogan, "Clapton Is God" appeared on many walls throughout London in the late sixtie's.
Searching for something clever to call the show, Godfrey and the band came up with this play on words... |
After hearing Godfrey jamming on some Cream tunes in a club one night, Eric Clapton's guitar tech, Lee Dickson commented to John Entwistle of The Who, "This guy's got Clapton down better than Clapton!" ... ...so much so that Jack Bruce (bassist/vocalist/songwriter of Cream), has been recruiting Godfrey and his band to back him up for the past 8 years. |

Becoming...The "Project" |
In 2003, Godfrey and his band were personally requested by Alan Parsons to become his "touring" Project and have circled the globe several times in the past 8 years as The Alan Parsons Live Project. A live DVD features the band and a crowd of over 10,000 in Madrid, Spain.
"Eye 2 Eye – Live in Madrid features an outstanding performance and for many fans this is the first opportunity to see Alan Parsons' touring band. The musicians’ performances are superb throughout, and this could well be the definitive band line-up that Alan has toured with. An added treat is Alan singing lead vocals on three songs as well as all band members sharing the lead vocal duties."
"The Eye 2 Eye DVD/CD features most of the Projects’ best known hits – Don’t Answer Me, Prime Time, Games People Play – with vocals not only from Parsons himself, but also PJ Olsson and hugely impressive drummer Steve Murphy – filling in for the array of vocal talent the APP have utilized in the past." |
Tools Of The Trade...
Creating the authentic tones of Clapton's guitar playing is made possible
by using instruments as close to the original specs of Eric's own.
A visual vibe is also created with these replicas of vintage instruments.
Last but not least, almost 40 years of shedding riff after riff of Clapton's
playing style gives a natural "feel" to the performances.
The Cream era: Gibson SG Standard with psychedelic paintjob nicknamed "The Fool"... Godfrey uses his replica of "The Fool", to get those authentic "Cream" tones.
The Dominos era: 1956 Fender Stratocaster in two tone sunburst nicknamed "Brownie"... Godfrey plays his 50's Reissue "Brownie" Sunburst.
Fender Signature Series Clapton Strat modeled after his most used strat, "Blackie". Godfrey's plays a "Blackie" model.
Godfrey uses a Gibson J-45 acoustic with custom paintjob of the Layla album cover artwork for the "unplugged" material.
Psychedelic hand painted Danelectro DC-59 used during the Blind Faith rehearsals/recordings.
